Water Damage Restoration in Washington Navy Yard, DC Near Me

It depends on what caused the water and on the wording of your policy, so the only reliable answer comes from your policy documents or your insurer. As a general pattern, sudden and accidental losses such as a burst pipe or a failed appliance hose are treated differently from gradual leaks and seepage. Flood is usually handled under a separate flood policy. We cannot tell you what your policy covers, and a restoration contractor in Washington Navy Yard, DC cannot either. What you can do right away is photograph the damage and report the loss to your insurer.

We are not a restoration contractor, so we do not bill insurers or handle claims ourselves. We connect you with an independent local contractor, and any insurance billing is arranged directly between you and that contractor. Many restoration contractors are used to documenting losses for insurers, but practices vary from company to company. Before work starts, ask the contractor how they handle claims, what documentation they provide and what you would owe if the insurer pays less than the invoice.

That depends on the source of the water and how much of the home is affected. Clean water from a supply line in one room is a very different situation from sewage or floodwater, which can carry contaminants and should be treated as hazardous. Water near electrical systems, sagging ceilings and soaked structural materials are also reasons for caution. If you have any doubt, keep people and pets out of the affected area until a contractor has inspected it. For anything involving gas or live electricity, call the utility or emergency services first.

Check the credential that applies where you live, because the rules differ by state. Some states license contractors or require registration, some leave it to cities and counties, and a few license mold work separately. Ask for the license or registration number and verify it with the issuing body. Ask for proof of general liability insurance and, if they have employees, workers compensation cover. Ask for a written scope of work before anything is removed. Many restoration firms also hold IICRC certification, which you can ask to see.

No. We set no prices and play no part in the quote. The contractor you are matched with inspects the property and gives you their own estimate, and many contractors offer free estimates, so confirm that before booking. Because the price comes from the contractor, it is sensible to ask what the estimate includes, how changes to the scope will be handled and how insurance billing would work if you make a claim. If you want a sense of typical figures, published industry sources such as Fixr report national averages, but only an inspection produces a real number for your property.
